Been looking for a reason to head back to Atlas Fallen? The new Reign of Sand free update should well provide it.
Rolling out today on all platforms – Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC – is the new Reign of Sand update for Atlas Fallen. In fact, it sees the original game be completely replaced, evolving into Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand with a free overhaul that enhances near on every aspect of the game. Consider we dropped a 4.5/5 review score onto the original game back in 2023, and it could well mean that this is even more of a must-player.
Building on the original game
That review of Atlas Fallen picked up on some seriously impressive aspects. It was alread a great looking game, full of cooperative opportunities that worked flawlessly, as the combat and traversal moments were well worked out. Aside from some camera issues and bits and bobs that felt unpolished, we came away impressed…
“Atlas Fallen is a brilliant game. It isn’t perfect, but perfection is boring. Games need to have character to stick in the memory, and Atlas Fallen has that in spades. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and so it is easy to recommend.”
The next level
But now Deck13 are taking things to the next level. Reign of Sand is a comprehensive free update that brings an overhaul to a number of gameplay mechanics and core game features along with various pacing and quality of life improvement. Available to all players on PC and consoles, this comes about as a direct result of the community’s valuable feedback.
“Reign of Sand reflects our dedication to keeping Atlas Fallen a dynamic and captivating experience for all players.” says Ahmed Boukhelifa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer – PULLUP ENTERTAINMENT STUDIOS. “This free update is a testament to our commitment, offering substantial new content that both returning and new players will enjoy.”
So what do you get? Well, an expanded world, new enemies, revamped progression, new quests and more. You’ll also get to enjoy new voice acting with the talented Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI, Warframe), a reworked campaign and face even more formidable creatures armed with 25 new Essence Stones.
Time for a new playthrough?
Whilst a brand new playthrough is recommended, you can also persevere in your adventure with the long-awaited “New Game +” and challenge the gods with the new Nyaal’s Nightmare difficulty mode. Carrying progress of an older character over to Reign of Sand is a cinch too.
“Our team was grateful for the opportunity to further develop Atlas Fallen and to bring a vastly updated version to the players. We listened to the feedback and made a whole series of improvements that we hope will make players enjoy the game even more.” says Jan Klose, Creative Director on Atlas Fallen.
