When you think of 2000s / 2010s Xbox, a few specific faces come to mind. Master Chief is likely top of that list, but we would wager that the legendary Marcus Fenix can’t come too far behind. With Gears of War: E-Day – officially announced at the recent Xbox Games Showcase – developers The Coalition are creating an emotional origin story that will have you hungering for Locust blood throughout.
14 Years Ago…
Fans of the classic third-person cover-shooting action Gears has become synonymous with over the years will feel right at home in Gears of War: E-Day. Set 14 years before the original Gears of War, as the Locust emergence commences, we’ll be following the journey of Marcus Fenix and bromance partner Dom Santiago as they encounter the terrifying alien Locust for the first time.
Equipped with heavy weaponry in hand, expect this to be a very, very bloody affair, as heads come off and guts fly around the place.
But yet, Gears is also known for its more sobering moments, as fans of the original trilogy can attest to – we are sure that E-Day will have these in spades, given that it focuses on the day of Locust emergence, a pivotal point of origin for the entire Gears universe.
Return to Form
As well as a return to the narratives of yesteryear, the same can be said for the gameplay. This is a Gears title through-and-through, with all of the adrenaline-pumping cover-based shooting that fans have always enjoyed. The iconic Chainsaw Lancer hasn’t actually been invented at this point in the lore, but The Coalition assure us that we will get our chainsawing fix, somehow!
Of course, this is all performed with a modern lick of paint that will ensure that graphically the game absolutely pops, and the power of next-gen tech is used to strike the perfect balance between authentic Gears, and innovation in the series.

As far as a Gears of War: E-Day release date is concerned, your guess is as good as ours. Hopefully The Coalition will announce some more details in due course, as we simply can’t wait to reunite with our two favourite bros in gaming, and tear apart some Locust!
