It’s been a whopping 14 years since we had our last helping of Perfect Dark – the tactical spy-thriller FPS originally developed by Rare, and now under the wing of The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics. However, just one of the many major reveals at the recent Xbox Games Showcase was a detailed gameplay reveal for the Perfect Dark reboot. Are we excited? Yes! Can we wait? No, not really!
Get Your Spy On
Joanna Dark – one of the most legendary spies the world-over – has an all-important mission to embark on. As the infamous Daniel Carrington is threatening to bring global economies to their knees, and usher an era of anarchy across the globe, it is Joanna’s job to bring him to task.
In order to do so, she’ll make use of a wide range of high-tech gadgetry, her expert parkour abilities, and her extensive arsenal in the occasional firefight, to traverse across the detailed levels that Crystal Dynamics and The Initiative have crafted. Seriously, just take a look at the trailer we’ve linked below, and you’ll see that the world that has been created is so bright and beautiful, with tons to explore and different ways to achieve your goal.
In the gameplay reveal, Joanna is sent to Cairo, and adopts her signature stealthy style, before unfortunately things go a bit pear-shaped and a gunfight ensues. However, this doesn’t have to be the case – the mantra here really is ‘play your way’, with the ability to sneak in undetected, and approach enemies however you see fit. Take the best bits from Dishonored, Hitman and Splinter Cell, and you are almost there.
Coming Soon?
One can hope that it’s not too long until we get our hands on this Perfect Dark reboot, but so far no release window or definitive release date has been provided. One thing’s for sure – this is going to be a real draw for stealth fans when it comes to Xbox some time in the future. Perfect Dark will also launch onto Game Pass, day-one.
We will of course provide you with any updates on the status of Perfect Dark, as well as that all important release info, when we get it. For now, why not check out the gameplay reveal below, as well as the official page for the game on the Xbox Store?
