More Than Just a Rebrand: Asphalt Legends Unite Boasts New Content and Updated Engine

-

Having hit the console grid back in 2019, the Asphalt series continues to evolve, coming together with the launch of Asphalt Legends Unite.

From Gameloft is the latest version of the legendary Asphalt games, as Asphalt 9: Legends is rebranded, switching lanes as it evolves into Asphalt Legends Unite. It’s available right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC and mobile. And if you’re casting a jealous eye from the world of Nintendo, then fear not, as a Switch version is set to follow.

Asphalt Legends Unite – more than a rebrand

Asphalt evolves

Replacing Asphalt 9: Legends on all digital storefronts from today, Asphalt Legends Unite allows current players to easily upgrade and continue their tour of racing, all while introducing new players to the trademark high-speed and action-packed Asphalt racing experience.

It looks to go building on the monumental global success of the Asphalt racing franchise, as Asphalt Legends Unite takes players global with the series’ first-ever inclusion of cross-platform support. This obviously brings massive opportunities for both casual multiplayer and esports competition, and along with global competitions, platform-specific tournaments, and the return of live stage finals, the addition of cross-play means every Asphalt Legends Unite racer will have almost limitless competition at their fingertips.

Further to that, and in addition to the classic Career mode that guides players through the basics of the Asphalt Legends Unite experience, Asphalt Legends Unite includes other exciting modes and features such as a new Singapore track, new vehicles, the 20-player Grand Prix and the bi-annual month-long narrative-focused Drive Syndicate set in a seedy, criminal underworld.

New features

And Team Pursuit, a mode completely new to the series, takes Asphalt multiplayer to new levels with asymmetric, real-time, team-based races where five Syndicate players must coordinate to escape three Security pursuers. While the Syndicate players must elude capture, Security drivers are tasked with taking down a total of five Syndicate racers to claim victory. Whether playing aggressively or conservatively, using teammates as bait, or simply trying to use speed to win, Team Pursuit opens up many strategic and competitive possibilities.

If that isn’t your racing bag, and you prefer to race with your own crew, then you can now create lobbies via a private room system, inviting players from your friends list. The host player can set several race parameters, including the track, car class, racing mode, number of laps, and more. The private lobby feature also supports spectators, allowing non-racers to watch the action and opening up new customization options for esports competitions.

Need more with the evolution of Asphalt? Well, Asphalt Legends Unite also contains plenty of changes under the hood, including an upgraded game engine and improved dynamic lighting to add extra levels of realism to every single race. In addition, player garages have received a visual overhaul that results in a more modern leaning aesthetic and a much-requested garage level cap increase. You will also notice significant user interface improvements with UI focused on smoother navigation, more intuitive layouts, and improved accessibility for players using controllers.

Digital and physical releases

Whilst us Xbox players are limited to the digital world, to celebrate the launch of Asphalt Legends Unite, a physical edition is set to be released globally on PlayStation 5 on August 29th. Asphalt Legends Unite Supercharged Edition will come retailing for $39.99, including six extra car unlocks spread across all performance classes, 5,000 tokens of in-game currency, 5,000,000 credits of in-game currency, and a “Unite” car livery for the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4.

Celebrations are also taking place in-game as players who log in within the first two racing seasons will receive a free Nissan 370Z Neon Edition, 20 card packs, 50,000 credits, and 750 tokens.

A Nintendo Switch version of Asphalt Legends Unite Supercharged Edition will be sold exclusively in Europe at a later date.

If you’re not yet behind the wheel of Asphalt on Xbox and wish to go racing with the newly improved Asphalt Legends Unite, then hit up the Xbox Store. It’s free to download and play. Obviously that free to play nature means that Store Page is loaded with Token DLC packs, but it doesn’t mean you HAVE to buy them…
