We Tried The Jackbox Naughty Pack: Time to Get Dirty

The Jackbox Naughty Pack – hands-on time

If your friends are anything like mine, it takes about 0.15 seconds into a game of Jackbox before it descends into something that would make your mother blush. We have managed to get the text-to-speech robots say some horrific things in Mad Verse City (The Jackbox Party Pack 5), drawn all manner of genitalia in Tee K.O. (The Jackbox Party Pack 3) and let our minds wander to the dankest of places in Survive the Internet (The Jackbox Party Pack 4).

What I’m saying is, we don’t exactly need a prompt to go full send in a Jackbox game. But, with the upcoming The Jackbox Naughty Pack, we are getting those prompts. Now, this could either go two ways. Either it makes us look long and hard at ourselves, or it does the opposite and we double down on the mischief. And after our short preview time with The Jackbox Naughty Pack, both outcomes seem just as likely.

The Jackbox Naughty Pack will be a slightly smaller pack than previous entries, offering three games to delve into: Fakin’ It! All Night Long, Dirty Drawful and Let Me Finish. As you can see, the innuendo that sometimes crept through is now front and centre.

Fakin’ It! All Night Long is the return of the social deduction game, but with more risqué topics to try and bluff your way through. For those that aren’t familiar with the concept, everyone who joins is given a secret task on their phone. Everyone except the Faker, who must blend in based on the reactions of others. Ie. If everyone selects yes on their device, it’s a good idea to follow suit.

The previous version of Fakin’ It! required players to ideally be in the same room together. As many people play Jackbox like that, it isn’t really usually an issue. However, it isn’t always possible, so this new version of Fakin’ It! will allow for remote play. Rather than asking you to raise your hand or point at someone, the prompts on what to do will appear on the phone instead.

I think this will actually help the Faker out, as their reactions can’t be seen by everyone, allowing them to be slightly more elusive.

Next up is Dirty Drawful, a new Drawful game with prompts that allow players to draw ‘mature’ doodles without feeling guilty. Like we needed an excuse.

Even the Drawful Owl has been sexualised up, with thick thighs and a pole to swing around. You may or may not have conflicting feelings when you see her on the title screen.

Dirty Drawful also includes a much requested feature: the ability to undo a mistake in your doodles. With the promise of sex, drugs, blasphemy and more, if your Kama Sutra drawings don’t look right, your bag of coke is only half full, or if Jesus isn’t quite nailed to the cross, you can redo your mistakes.

Finally, there is Let Me Finish, the new original game for the Naughty Pack. This one looks to be one for the improv comedians, giving you an image and a question before randomly asking a member or two of the contestant panel to come up with the best answer. However, if you aren’t chosen and think you can do a better job, interject. Hence the double entendre name, Let Me Finish.

During our time with the Jackbox team and their Naughty Pack presentation, we were allowed some hands-on time with each of the games. We were joined by a few members of the Jackbox team: Mike Bilder, CEO at Jackbox Games, Brooke Breit, Creative Director and Product Manager at Jackbox Games, Warren Arnold, Game Director for Dirty Drawful and Let Me Finish and Tim Sniffen, Game Director for Fakin’ It All Night Long. Any preconceptions as to where these guys drew the proverbial line quickly disappeared once the games got going.

Some of the prompts we witnessed were perhaps a bit tamer than The Jackbox Naughty Box name would suggest, but in a way that works. Much like a night with your significant other, you don’t want to shoot off at 100mph – you want a slow build, some mood setting candles with more mature moments sprinkled in throughout.

One thing we do know is that The Jackbox Naughty Pack is launching on Xbox, PC, Nintendo and PlayStation on 12th September. The Xbox Store link is worth a look, but you can also Wishlist it on Steam right here. We already know these are great games for a game night with friends but these new additions are set to make things even spicier.

We will have a full review of The Jackbox Naughty Pack coming up around that time – at least once we can stop blushing at some of the answers. Sound off in the comments though if you will be picking this one up!
