Ready for a new Atari reimagining? Fatal Run 2089 is coming.
Fatal Run first released on Atari consoles (2600 and 7800) back in 1990, but today Atari have confirmed that they’ll be bringing that futuristic racer back from the dead, releasing Fatal Run 2089 on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2025.Â
Having become a bit of an iconic collector game, Fatal Run will return with Fatal Run 2089. In development by MNSTR Studio, overseen by Atari, it’ll make the most of the power of Unreal Engine 5 in hope of delivering some high-octane action, running at blistering speeds.Â
A reimagnied Fatal Run
Fatal Run 2089 is set in a rich post-apocalyptic fantasy landscape, taking players across four distinct global regions, as they look to battle the clock through 20 levels, each with hairpin turns, branching paths, hidden shortcuts, and explosive set pieces.
As you may expect to hear though, that clock isn’t all you’ll have to worry about as you race through the badlands. Nope, you’ll want to stay alert and fight off other road-raging enemies with your arsenal of weapons. Or alternatively bash them off the road with a selection of seven different vehicles.
Why? Well, in the aftermath of a comet collision that bathed Earth in deadly radiation, humanity’s remnants have formed fierce factions of wasteland warriors. In Fatal Run 2089, you join a courageous group of scientists known as the ‘Engineers.’ Your critical mission: transport ARCs – advanced clean energy devices designed to purify the atmosphere – to essential population hubs worldwide. You’ll do that by getting behind the wheel, putting pedal to the metal, fighting through the post-apocalyptic chaos.
